The Currency of India
At the time of this writing, the exchange rate was about 40 rupees to one US dollar. This changes daily, so look online for the current exchange rate.
Spending Money
India is very inexpensive. The US dollar goes so far that things will almost feel free. For example, a large meal will cost about $2.00. Because most of your expenses, such as hotel and group travel will be covered as part of the basic package, you will need very little extra for spending.
That said, if you like to shop or plan to study while there, you might want to budget in some spending money. $500 is more than enough for most people. There are plenty of ATM machines available, so you don’t have to carry a lot of cash when you travel.
Massage and spa treatments at our hotel range from $30 USD, but can be less expensive with other local therapists—Usually about $10-$15.
Travelers Checks
ATM & Major Credit Cards
US dollars and Euros are widely accepted in India. Most banks have ATM machines that give both dollars and rupees at the current exchange rate. Some will even give Euros. Traveler’s checks are not necessary when traveling in India.
